ATTENTION TEACHERS!!I read Musnet with guided reading groups in my fourth grade class because graphic novels are so popular right now. The students loved the illustrations, humor, and adventure that the book entails. As we read the story, the students had many questions about Monet and Rembrandt (Remi the squirrel). It sparked enthusiasm for art and history. After reading the book we looked up information on both artists and looked at examples of their work. The students were amazed that many scenes in the book really exist at Monet's Museum in France. As we looked at Monet's paintings, they were excited to see scenes that were in the story. As a teacher, I have always struggled with fitting in all of the standards with the fast pace of a school year. Musnet pulled Art right into Reading. I have never had so many students excited about Art.I also tried reading Musnet to my own kids (ages 6 and 8). They loved it. Just like the students, they are all of a sudden wanting to draw, color, and paint. They cant' wait for book 2 and neither can I. I have never seen a children's graphic novel as well done as this. It takes some time to read but the rewards are great.
As a fan of Monet and modern art, I really enjoyed this book! The author took me on a journey with an adorable mouse, while teaching bits and pieces about the elements of painting. I enjoyed the nod to Monet's artistic style and even some of Monet's specific pieces. It makes a beautiful backdrop to a sweet, well-paced story. I'm looking forward to the release of the second book in this series!!!
My 2 girls and me loved getting to know Musnet! We'll be traveling from the apple orchard of MN to Monet's Garden next year. Will be on the lookout for the next books in the series. Thanks for introducing us to Musnet and for the art lessons. :)

I love when books include art history in them because it makes me feel at home since I grew up in art museums as a museum director’s daughter. Musnet is no different. As soon as I realized that Musnet had ended up in Monet’s famous garden, I was fascinated with Musnet’s story and his journey to becoming an artist. Kickliy’s artwork pays perfect homage to Monet’s work and is a beautiful backdrop to Musnet’s story. I look forward to reading the second in the series.
